10 Apr A Successful Prairie Burn
We want to give a HUGE shoutout to our partners who helped us burn one of our prairie units this week. 18 total individuals representing Cedar Bog, US Fish and Wildlife Service, The Division of Ohio Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, ONAPA – Ohio Natural Areas and Preserves Association, MAD Scientist Associates LLC, Hancock County Park District, Richland County Park District, Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District, Pheasants Forever, Shelby County Park District, and the City of Gahanna worked together to successfully burn 25.3 acres. Without our partners, Cedar Bog would not be able to properly manage these habitats, so THANK YOU!
Prairie burning is a fantastic habitat management tool to decrease woody species, increase soil nutrients, and clear debris for this year’s growth.
Thanks to Isabel Powis from USFWS for the pictures.
